Early Childhood Education Associate’s Degree Cohort at Fisher College, 2018-2019 Information Session

Are you considering working towards your Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education? Join us at the information session for the EPS Early Childhood Education Associate’s Cohort 2018-2019 through a collaboration between EPS Region 6 and Fisher College. At the information session you will:

  • Learn more about the EPS Early Childhood Education Associate’s Cohort (2018-2019) and how to apply for a spot in the cohort
  • Receive career and college advising support from EPS and Fisher personnel
  • Have a chance to take home prize drawings!
  • Learn about other professional development opportunities available through EPS this year
  • Receive information from Fisher College about their various Early Childhood Education programs, including non-degree certificates and Associate’s degree in ECE

Cohort members will:

  • Be enrolled in up to five 3 credit college courses at Fisher College in the 2018-2019 school year. These courses include: ED204 Strategies for Children’s Behavior, ED205 Children with Special Needs,  ED120 Infant/Toddler Curriculum OR ED121 Preschool Curriculum, ED116 Health Safety and Nutrition, and ED223 Administering Programs for Children
    -Each course will take place Tuesday evenings, 6:30pm-9:00pm at Fisher College in downtown Boston
    -Courses are all hybrid/blended which means classes meet once a week face to face and half the coursework is done online in Blackboard
    -Each course will be 8 weeks long and the first course starts in September
  • Receive support from EPS and Fisher College personnel to complete application for Associate’s degree before the 2019-2020 school year
  • Receive support from EPS and Fisher College personnel to apply for available financial aid

Requirements to Be Eligible for the Cohort:

-Have previously taken and passed Child Growth and Development (at an accredited college or university)
-Worked in the field for at least 6 months
-Have a PQR number and currently working in a licensed/licensed-exempt program
-Priority will be given to educators who live or work in Region 6

Total cost for the cohort: $50 per course plus cost of textbooks

* What language are the courses in?: English
* What if I have already taken some of the courses offered through the cohort?: That’s okay! Everyone is encouraged to apply
* Can I transfer college credits that I’ve already taken towards the Associate’s Degree?: Yes, you can transfer up to 30 credits towards the Associate’s Degree at Fisher College with review of coursework and approval by the College
* What if I am currently taking Child Growth and Development?: You should still apply if you will complete the course by September 2018.
* When will applications open?: At the information session on Thursday, August 16 and will go live on our website on Friday, August 17, 2018.

ED204 Strategies for Children’s Behavior at Fisher College

Course Description:
This course will examine instructional strategies and developmental theory of how children’s self image and self control are developed through individual and small-group interactions. Course material is drawn from developmental and learning theories for infancy, toddlerhood, and the preschool years. Observations are an important learning tool for this course.

Schedule: This is an 8 week blended/hybrid course. It meets once a week and part of the work is done online.

Descripción del curso: Este curso examina el desarrollo cognitivo, emocional, social y físico de los niños desde el nacimiento hasta los ocho años de edad. Course Description: This course examines the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of children from birth to eight years of age. Child development theories as well as empirical research relating to each area of development will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the characteristics of healthy environments that promote optimal child development.

Sobre las clases de CDA que ofreceremos en Urban College

El CDA de Urban College incluye dos clases:

  • ECE119 Introducción al CDA, Sabados, 9:00am-1:00pm, Septiembre 15, 2018 – Diciembre 15, 2018 – Como parte del proceso nacional de credenciales del CDA, este curso ha sido diseñado para ayudar a los educadores que trabajan en las comunidades del lenguaje español o mandarin a familiarizarse con los asuntos relacionados con el cuidado de niños desde el nacimiento hasta los seis años de edad. El material de este curso revisa las normas profesionales generales, las prácticas apropiadas, normas de ética en el cuidado infantil, las regulaciones legales y explora el valor de la autoevaluación, la colaboración y la preparación adecuada de las lecciones. En preparación para trabajar en el CDA, los maestros que participan en este curso, estudiarán el crecimiento y desarrollo del niño y se les guiará en
    técnicas para planear y promover un ambiente seguro y sano, que permita a los niños adquirir un desarrollo físico e intelectual, apoyando a la vez su desarrollo socio emocional positivamente y el desarrollo de estrategias para establecer relaciones productivas con las familias y la metodología
    adecuada para mantener un programa efectivo. 
  • ECE120 Desarrollo del Portafolio Profesional de CDA, Sabados, 9:00am-1:00pm, Primavera 2019 – Como parte del proceso de la acreditación nacional del CDA, este curso preparará a los educadores de educación temprana a identificar los recursos locales y a través de este proceso podrán documentar su eficacia desarrollando un Portafolio de Recursos del CDA. Este se compone de un conjunto de materiales diseñados que complementan y proveen información sobre las prácticas profesionales de un educador de enseñanza temprana y a la vez provee un resumen de los valores de cada educador respecto a su trabajo. También sirve como un recurso valioso para los educadores definiendo y articulando sus
    propios puntos de vista de su trabajo en su área. El mayor enfoque de este curso será dedicado a las trece áreas de funcionamiento especificadas en el CDA, alineadas y comparadas con las normas de desarrollo apropiadas en el desarrollo y la educación infantil. Los estudiantes aprenderán y practicarán
    el proceso de entrevistas y utilizarán estrategias importantes al tomar exámenes.

Los participantes tambien recibiran un entrenamiento de “Tech Goes Home” en algunas de las clases los Sabados. Estas clases repasaran las destrezas de computadora y todos los participantes recibiran una computadora sin costo adicional.

Los participantes recibiran 9 creditos universitarios al completar las clases de CDA.

Costo: $100 (total de dos clases)

Pre-calificaciones:

  • Todos los participantes TIENEN que haber tomado y pasado Child Growth and Development (Desarrollo del Nino) de una universidad acreditada.

About the 2018-2019 CDA offered through EPS and Urban College

The CDA through Urban College includes two college courses:

  • ECE119 Introduction to CDA, Saturdays, 9:00am-1:00pm, September 15, 2018 – December 15, 2018
  • ECE120 Professional CDA Resource File Development, Saturdays, 9:00am-1:00pm, Spring 2019

Participants will also receive training from Tech Goes Home at some of the Saturday classes. These trainings will review computer skills and all participants will receive a laptop, free of charge.

Participants will receive 9 college credits when they complete the CDA courses.

Cost: $50

Pre-qualifications:

  • All participants MUST have taken and passed Child Growth and Development (from any accredited college or university)
  • Educator must be currently working in an EEC licensed or licensed exempt program
    Educators who live or work in Region 6 will be given priority

ECE 114 Curriculum Development for Infants and Toddlers (MANDARIN) at Urban College

Course Description:
This course covers curriculum development for infants and toddlers, including the planning of appropriate learning experiences, the creation of learning environments and the utilization of various methods of stimulation development. Educational materials and curriculum packages are evaluated in context of current programs and research. The caregiver’s role is studied, as are the requirements for establishing a new center, early intervention strategies and designing and integrating health and safety procedures into the daily program. (This course meets category 7, Infant and Toddler Development, Care, and Program Planning, requirements for EEC Certifications. Éste curso abarca el desarrollo del currículo para infantes y niños, incluyendo la planificación de experiencias apropiadas a traves del aprendizaje, la creación de ambientes de aprendizaje y la utilización de varios métodos para estimular el desarrollo. Materiales educativos de currículo serán evaluados de acuerdo con el contexto de los programas de investigación corriente. Study Smarter Not Harder – Study Skills PLC

This PLC is designed to help students improve their learning effectiveness to “study smarter and not harder or longer.” Some topics will include: time management, concentration, note taking skills, textbook study methods, test taking strategies and others.
