This three-part Professional Learning Community will take Early Childhood Educators through the process of “onboarding” a Tinkering structure in their educational settings. The first class will help educators examine the value of a Tinkering program in providing meaningful STEAM learning experiences and review existing education theory in support of this model. It will also guide educators through a full-length lesson. The second class will look at specific content-area skills and concepts Tinkering experiences can expose children to. The last class will focus on curriculum design, giving teachers the opportunity to collaborate to develop a series of relevant mini-lessons and literature-based STEAM challenges for students to address using loose parts play. Teachers will leave with a solid background in Tinkering in both pedagogy and practice, and a plan for getting started with Tinkering in their own classrooms.
*This PLC is for educators who work with preschool aged children*
