Children Come With Backgrounds (In English) – Fall Professional Development Day 2017 @ ABCD Boston, 3rd Floor
Oct 21 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Children Come With Backgrounds (In English)

This Training is now Full!

In a classroom, sometimes the people not present are as important as the ones who are. Each interaction you have with a child or family includes “ghosts at the table” – the imaginary figures that represent the culture and expectations from previous generations/experiences. In this workshop, we are first going to take a deep look at our own experiences, and beliefs and identify how they impact our interactions with others. We will uncover our own biases (we all have them!) to prevent their intrusion into our work with families. After we look at ourselves, we will look at how we can use that information to identify ways to support diversity in the program and classroom. We will look at different policies and procedures, NAEYC anti-bias philosophy and how we can best support children, families and each other.

Participants will receive .5 CEU credit hours.

Participants select one training for the entire day. Educators, administrators, and ECE program staff are welcome to participate in this professional development day. The cost of $25.00 per person, includes a box lunch and CEU and materials. Special prize drawings and opportunities to network with peers! Preference in enrollment will be given to educators who live or work in EEC Region 6. A Professional Qualifications Registry (PQR) number is required for registration. Email the EPS Region 6 Team at eps@bostonabcd.org with any questions.
