By moving more and sitting less, children are not only learning, they are learning how to live a healthful way.  When children participate in active play, they not only develop their large muscles, they are better able to learn in all domains.  Also, movement helps children develop confidence in their abilities.  By participating in fun physical activity early in life, children may develop a lifelong enjoyment of being physical active.  During this interactive training, participants will explore the benefits of including active play throughout the curriculum, discuss ways to support motor skill development, consider ways to create a safe and appropriate active learning environment, and share strategies that promote active learning both indoors and outdoors.  Participants will also discuss the MA Department of Early Education and Care regulation on physical activity required of licensed early childhood programs.

This training is 5 hours/.5 CEU credits. Core Competency: 5. Learning Environments and Curriculum.

Instructor: Michelle Campbell-Gaylord
